Jan 31, 2020

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad revealed that the government has planned various development projects aimed at transforming Kampung Baru into a more organised, modern and beautiful area.

The mosque in Kampung Baru would serve as the centre of development which would feature a 9.6ha Malay community heritage park.

He explained that the park’s concept is similar to Melaka’s Kampong Morten but on a bigger scale.

“It will have houses built in accordance with Malay architecture and 11 units of existing homes in Kampung Baru will be preserved and placed in the park,” he said in an interview on Ruang BIcara Bernama TV.

He added that a modern pedestrian bridge, called ‘Saloma Link’, will also connect Kampung Baru to Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).

“After this, it will only take only 15 minutes on foot for the residents of Kampung Baru who want to go to KLCC.”

A heritage theatre showcasing the Malay community’s culture would also be built on the park, while more public transport services would be introduced within the village area.

The government would also build business and affordable housing areas for the Malays in Kampung Baru in order that the number of Malays in Kuala Lumpur would grow in an orderly and planned manner, said Khalid.
